Papalaua Beach Campground Located between Maalea and Lahaina, this primitive roadside campground has several undesignated sites carved out of the area between the highway and the sea. Located near a popular ocean kayaking area, it is
also one of the best camping areas to hang that hammock (if you can find
the right tree). Road noise can be overwhelming at times, but to camp
any closer to the sea you would have to be in it. Facilities are limited to portable toilets. Water is not available. |

Many of Maui's campgrounds require a reservation or a permit to be issued to you before you reach the island. Certain campgrounds are only open on certain days of the week, and all tropical campers should research their own itinerary and island areas.
