Lahaina Jodo Mission

A trip to the West Maui harbor town of Lahaina is not complete without a visit to the Lahaina Jodo Mission. The intricate woodwork of the temple buildings is amazing, and the colors of the worship houses are vibrant. The centerpiece of the Mission is the giant Buddha statue, resting firmly and peacefully on a concrete and rock altar. The Buddha looks toward the sunset... and west toward Asia.

There is no cost to visit the Mission grounds, but please be a respectful visitor in and around the sacred buildings and monuments. There is a donation container near the front gate to help maintain the Mission and support it's good works.

While there are no camping opportunities here, there are campgrounds nearby at Olowalu and Papalaua. Check availability before you travel.
